Academy Dance- Kansas City’s premiere non-competition dance studio!

This will be an exciting year for us. I welcome back those returning and also welcome those who might be new to our Academy family. The Academy is a special place that takes great pride in molding our students into strong, self -confident, active youths using the arts as our tool. Academy Dance strives to achieve that through technique, performance, and professional level teaching.

I have been teaching dance for 10 years, with 7 of those years here at the Academy. I earned my BFA in Dance from Stephens College in Columbia, MO where I received excellent training in not only Ballet, Modern, Tap and Jazz, but also West African, Flamenco, Musical Theatre, Irish Step, and East Indian. I try to incorporate all that I have learned and continue to learn in my choreography and technique. I have been dancing professionally for 5 years in the modern dance company, aha! dance theatre. I feel teachers who dance professionally are better equipped with up-to-date performance skills they can transfer to the studio.

Also teaching at Academy Dance are Sarah Snow and Amanda January. Sarah has taught here for one year and is currently a student at SMSU. Miss Sarah will be teaching Levels .5 through Level 2. Amanda January will be teaching Level 6 Ballet and Contemporary as well as Level 3 Combo and the Level 4 classes. She is currently a company member of City in Motion and has been teaching for 10 years.

In addition to our studio classes, we also have a performance troupe called Expression. This is an auditioned group who performs almost once a month all over the city. Auditions for this group are only on an as needed basis and will be posted. Expression requires upper level dance skills in all techniques.
